Conférence de Dr. Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias, Secrétaire exécutif de la Convention sur la diversité biologique, dans le cadre du congrès de l'ACÉLAC. Cette conférence sera donnée en anglais.

Meeting the challenge of halting the loss of biodiversity will require appropriate actions at a number of multiple levels and scales.  This will demand new models for sustainable consumption and production, based in the actual practices of communities.  In this way, understanding the links between biological and cultural diversity becomes a key research agenda for the design of new, participatory policies that will support sustainable development.  In Latin America, a number of actors are taking steps to develop these.  Indigenous and local communities (ILCs), women, youth, and other groups are demonstrating new modes of mobilization that can support the protection of biodiversity.  These need to be understood, and lessons drawn in a way that links researchers in social sciences with other research communities.
